“Kaimu Beach” might well have been the most famous and picturesque black sand beach in the world.  It's loss, when covered by a lava eruption between September 25 and October 7 of 1990, affected residents of the Big Island very deeply.  Although it was visited by thousands of tourist and residents daily, only strong swimmers and surfers dared venture out to tackle the swift currents and waves that pounded this tropical coastline.
